The Benefits of Beard Oil

January 4, 2015

Most men are totally down with looking after the hair on their head, we wash it, condition it, maybe style it a bit if we’re feeling crazy. We wouldn’t just forget about it and when we get dry, itchy scalp and lank looking hair think, oh well, better shave it off…

Applying the same thinking to your facial hair will result in a healthier, fuller and more manageable beard.

Beard oil isn’t just good for your beard

And just like your head, the benefits of beard oils don’t stop at the hair.
If you’ve had a beard for any length of time and haven’t looked after it you’ll probably notice the skin beneath looking a bit red, dry and maybe even a bit flaky. You may even have experienced the beard equivalent of dandruff, not the look any of us are going for.

Beard hair wicks moisture away from the skin… The external environment dries out the beard… It’s a lose/lose situation.

"The beard hair wicks moisture away from the skin, the external environment (especially if you live in a cold or dry climate or in a hard water area) then dries out the beard, leaving you with dry flaky skin and a hard, brittle beard. It’s a lose/lose situation."

Daily application of a beard oil will mitigate all those nasty effects.

You smell great!

Many beard oils also have the added benefit of smelling great due to the addition of manly smelling essential oils; think cedarwood, citrus, vanilla, and tobacco. And as your facial hair sits directly below your nose this just as good for you as it is for those close to you.

It’s not just wild man of the woods type beards that will benefit from a little TLC either. If you only ever sport a few days growth at a time, your hair will be softer and your skin will be in great shape if you use just a few drops a day.

Beard oils will instantly give a nice sheen to the hair and after regular use will leave you with a fuller more manageable mane.

A few drops a day…

So how do you use beard oil? Easy, just put a few drops in your hand (bottles often come with droppers), and then massage through the hair making sure you get right down to the base of the hair and the skin beneath. Don’t worry, you won’t be left looking greasy, beard oils will just give you an instant, nice sheen to the hair and after regular use will leave you with a fuller more manageable mane.

Many products contain oils like jojoba, grapeseed, argan (made from the seeds of the Argan tree), avocado or coconut – all rich in nutrients and readily absorbed by the skin and hair.

Balmy.

As well as our regular beard oils we’ve got a selection of beard balms which will give you a more intense moisturising treatment and a more defined shape to your beard with the addition of moisturising shea butter and beeswax. Particularly good for the longer beard.

Of course your beard care regimen doesn’t have to stop at beard oil. A shampoo will clean the hair without drying it out and you know you’ve always wanted to get that handlebar going, right?
